Who We Serve

Opportunity International's programs are designed to serve families that all too often have been left out of the traditional economy or systemically marginalized in their communities.

Opportunity currently serves 20 million people around the world, helping families build sustainable livelihoods and educate their children. Our programs are designed to serve families that all too often have been left out of the traditional economy or systemically marginalized in their communities. We work with entrepreneurs who are growing small businesses, farmers who are feeding their neighbors, and families who are building bright futures for their children.

In particular, Opportunity aims to reach:

Those living in extreme poverty.

People living on less than $1.90 a day face unimaginable challenges. Through Opportunity Zones, we are addressing the multifaceted needs of our clients.

Women and girls.

A disproportionate number of those living in extreme poverty are women and girls, whose economic challenges are coupled with gender-based discrimination and exclusion at home, in school, and at work.

Farmers.

About two-thirds of those living in extreme poverty live in rural areas, where subsistence agriculture is the primary economic driver. To fight global poverty, we must invest in rural communities and farmers.

Teachers and students.

One of the keys to breaking the cycle of generational poverty is education. By equipping teachers and investing in students, we are helping families build brighter futures.

Youth.

Many countries with limited economic opportunities also have burgeoning youth populations. In Africa and around the world, we develop apprenticeship programs and other trainings to help young people find work and earn an income.

Vulnerable populations.

The impact of poverty is even more severe for vulnerable groups like refugees. In response, we create economic opportunities within refugee communities and other marginalized groups.
